Wonder Minds Preschool, Bangsar

Tucked away from the buzzling Bangsar lies Wonder Minds Preschool, a quaint institution that offers childcare and preschool for local and international parents and children in the community. The school opened in 2014 at Medan Serai and later on moved to their current location in 2015. I had the opportunity to talk with Ms. Dashini & Ms. Jigna, who run the school together.

Unleashing Children’s Full Potential

Coming from a large family, with many children running around the house, Ms. Dashini felt that it’s her calling to open a childcare. With her passion in children, she set foot to start this school, leaving behind her corporate life and was later joined by Ms. Jigna in 2019. Together they operate Wonder Minds with the help of an experienced principal and a team of dedicated teachers.

The team at Wonder Minds believe that it’s important to develop each child to their fullest potential. Their goal is to ensure each child that goes through the school’s doors becomes independent, develops respect for themselves and their peers, develops expressive ability, and is hungry for the world.

Providing Wholesome Education

The school uses a Montessori-inspired syllabus, with an integrated thematic approach which encourages students to make creative choices in order to achieve their fullest learning potential. Wonder Minds also offers a school readiness program to ensure that their kids are ready to step into the next phase of their life, be it at an international or a local school.

Besides that, what makes Wonder Minds really stand out is their dedication to develop each child’s emotional capabilities. Children at the school are encouraged to talk about their feelings and be open about them. This practice will help children learn and understand more about their feelings, and how they should react to it.

Wonder Minds Preschool accepts children starting ages 3 months up to 6 years old and offer half-day, extended, and full-day programmes here. Children who are enrolled at the school are divided according to age groups for a better learning experience.

Wonder Minds operates from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Only The Best Teachers

At Wonder Minds, teachers are hand picked by the management to ensure top quality. Only those with a background in Early Childhood Education are selected to carry the role of a teacher at this school. Meanwhile, unlike other schools that offer day care, here at Wonder Minds, caretakers are selected from candidates with a nursing background, to ensure that infants are genuinely cared for.

Teachers at the school are trained in first aid and have internal trainings provided to them on a regular basis to ensure their knowledge and skills are up to date or in case if they need a refresher once in a while. What makes things special at Wonder Minds is that all their lessons are planned based on a monthly theme and go through a senior teacher with tons of knowledge to ensure that each child will benefit from them to the fullest.

Working Together

The school believes its important to work alongside parents to ensure their child reaches important developmental milestones. Every Friday, parents will receive a thorough report on their child via the parent app. This way, parents will be constantly updated on the progress of each child and this makes monitoring easier. The specialised app is developed for parents to keep in touch with the school which allows for exchanged communication between the two parties, regular updates, and more.

Parents are sure relieved when they find out that Wonder Minds adheres to a strict policy for pick up and drop off because parents need to use a designated access card to pick up or drop their child. Early drop-offs and late pickups are also available at the school, starting as early as 7:00 am and as late as 7:00 pm. In addition, other security features at the school include CCTVs which can be accessed by parents through an app to monitor their child throughout their day at the school, security guards patrolling the area and a dedicated guard house right in front of the school to ensure maximum security.

A Caring Environment

Facilities provided here are age-appropriate to ensure that children will benefit most when using them. The classrooms are laid out to be less cluttered so that it helps children focus during classes. For example, only one or two walls in a classroom are filled with important information that will help with each child’s development such as numbers or letters.

The school is equipped with 3 classrooms with different layouts to cater for each age group, a baby room, and a baby play area where babies can mingle and play together. An open space classroom is also made available with tons of enrichment for children to learn and enjoy themselves. All meals are prepared in house by a cook according to meal plans from a nutritionist. These healthy and wholesome meals will ensure children power through the day with a happy tummy. The school also offers on site potty training.

At such a young age, it’s important to not stress children and let them learn and have fun throughout their learning process. Children who walk through Wonder Minds doors will be ready to enter the next phase of their life with a positive outlook on life.
