StartRight Playhouse embraces a learning framework that is aligned with Malaysia’s national early learning guidelines as well as deeply inspired by the HighScope approach – an internationally recognized early childhood education approach that emphasizes active, hands-on learning, and supports children’s development in various domains through a structured daily routine.
Purposeful play takes centre stage in the learning journey for infants and toddlers. It is through play that they get to explore the concepts of how things work, build social skills, and develop physical and cognitive abilities. All activities and play materials are thoughtfully chosen to support learning objectives. From sensory adventures that tickle children’s senses to rhythmic movements that boost coordination, simple yet creative art activities that ignite imagination and fine motor skills, pretend play mirroring real-life situations, and outdoor time for some sunshine and fresh air – each activity is designed to facilitate learning not to mention make every day fun and enjoyable for the little ones.
Children are given the privilege of “Choice Time” where they can choose their playmates, activities, and what they want to do. When children make these choices, they tend to become deeply involved in their chosen activity for longer periods. Teachers use this opportunity for unstructured learning, interacting with children individually.
In addition to “Choice Time,” StartRight Playhouse also dedicates time to both small and large group time which cover activities like music, dance, yoga and storytelling, while maintaining a low teacher-child ratio of 1:3 to 1:7.
Language immersion is a valuable program at StartRight Playhouse, with specific days dedicated to each language – English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin – in order to promote language development.
