Pebbles Care Centre is located in Tanjung Tokong, Pulau Pinang. It is a loving child care provider focusing on after and before-school care for children ages four and above.
Founder and principal Karean Lim, who is qualified and experienced in childhood education, created Pebbles Care Centre out of a great passion for kids and a desire to guide them through the critical growing years. Karean has set up the centre as a ‘second home’ for children, after noticing a need for a nurturing place where busy working parents can send kids to outside of school hours.
Founded in 1996, Pebbles Care Centre initially provided nursery programmes for very young kids. Starting from 2021, they are offering support for children up to primary school age.
Their aim is to bolster the development of kids’ skills, while serving as warm caregivers who can help them navigate through life’s challenges.
Assisting Kids with Homework
Students who have homework assigned by schools can find time to finish them at Pebbles Care Centre. Teachers are on hand to help kids who are stuck with their academic work or need pointers.
The centre does not give children any extra work to be done, but do provide them with engaging activities that support their education and personal development. For example, children here read scholastic books from series such as ‘Word Family Tales’, ‘Phonics Tales’, and ‘Number Tales’, which stimulate early linguistic and numeracy skills.
Other than that, children who attend the centre’s programme get to play with materials that sharpen their brains and fine motor abilities, such as puzzles, playdough, building blocks, and word games.
Fostering Well-Rounded Children
Pebbles Care Centre emphasises the building of moral values, good attitudes and strong social skills. Karean realizes that kids today are glued to screens and mobile devices, where they can easily pick up unpleasant language and behaviour. Hence, she makes it a point to usher kids along a more wholesome development.
Understanding just how important it is for kids to pick up healthy habits and perspectives from a young age, the centre presents many fun opportunities for children to develop these traits.
Children here engage in storytelling sessions, play games with peers (including volleyball and table tennis), and receive emotional support from teachers.
A Place to Learn and Have Fun
Pebbles Care Centre typically organises an array of excursions and annual celebrations—such as Sports Day, Family Day, New Year’s Party and a Costume Party. Major festivities are also celebrated at the centre, where kids get to take part in exciting activities like Halloween-themed games or making snow skin mooncakes (as seen in the first picture).
Caring and Experienced Teachers
The teachers at Pebbles Care Centre are patient, loving, and experienced in working with school-age kids.
Children are encouraged to see teachers here as parental figures who are open and ready to guide them when needed. The teaching team makes sure to set a good example for students as they establish close rapport with them.
Karean, who closely involves herself with the kids’ wellbeing, personally trains teachers to ensure that the centre maintains a professional standard of child care.
A Good Relationship with Parents
Pebbles Care Centre keeps parents updated and informed on their children’s developments through updates on group chat apps. If a problem arises or parents have any concerns, Karean will personally talk with them.
Safety First
Kids’ safety is a priority at Pebbles Care Centre. The door here is always kept locked and strangers are not allowed to walk in. If any parent would like to visit the centre, they can only do so on Saturdays.
Besides that, the centre safeguards kids’ health through regular temperature checks, facility sanitization, and by encouraging kids to wash their hands frequently.
On top of all this, kids who join the centre are provided with insurance (a student accidental shield), to protect them and families in case any accidents occur.
