Arriving at the row of shophouses in Bandar Pinggiran Subang, the entrance to MRC Kids Subang was unmistakable as the gate was painted bright pink. Upon entering, we were greeted by its bubbly principal Ms. Christine. Apparently pink is the code color for MRC Kids, as we noticed that the children were also donning pink uniforms and most of the interior design of the centre were painted predominantly in pink. The pink color together with the cheery and bright wall papers made the preschool all the more cheerful.
Ms. Christine has a diploma in early childhood education and has already chalked up 12 years of experience in the education line. Her journey in childhood education began in before and after school care. After a few years she realized that her true calling was towards early childhood education and she decided to join MRC and soon after she started her own MRC Kids centre.
MRC Kids offers a whole brain development programme that uses creative approaches to develop linguistic intelligence. The main features of the programme include:

Speech and drama activities are implemented to encourage students to play and learn through an interactive experience; this way children will learn much faster, more readily and more joyfully. It is included as part of the kindergarten’s programme and is delivered in all three languages (B. Malaysia, English and Chinese). There is a special textbook for speech and drama and the teacher would first share the story of the play, after which the children would create their own props for the play via art and craft sessions.

During the play, children would also be allowed to create their own ending for the story. Children have the freedom to express their ideas, at the same time they get the opportunity to build their confidence and overcome stage fright. The activities also promote team work and equip children with interpersonal skills that will greatly benefit them in the future.

Science and moral classes are usually carried out through experiments and role-playing. This hands-on approach would increase their learning interest and memory retention after which the children would also be eager to share with their parents the things that they’ve learned at preschool. “I feel really happy when I see the children enjoying their lessons and they have many stories to share.”
As for Mathematics, the traditional counting process of using an abacus is used to develop mathematical intelligence from young. The abacus and mental arithmetic training is effective as it helps the brain visualize abstract mathematical concepts without using any calculators and also stimulates the right brain development of young children.
Besides that, Daycare Enrichment Programs are also offered to children who stay back for daycare. They would do some revision, reading and also learn Chinese Han Yu Pin Yin, B. Malaysia suku kata and English phonics.
As the kindergarten is located on the 1st floor of a shoplot, outdoor activities may be limited. However, Ms. Christine would organize occasional field trips and sometimes children will be brought to the park opposite the kindergarten for outdoor activities. Events such as sports day, family day or charity would be held together with other MRC centres and parents are encouraged to participate with their children. The safety of the children is a priority as CCTVs are installed in the main areas and the only entrance has an access controlled electric door installed. Parents teacher meetings are held twice a year to provide feedback to the parents on the learning progress and attitude of their child.
The programmes offered at MRC Kids Subang are very comprehensive, it helps children develop the necessary skills through different interactive activities and adequately prepares them for primary school. Ms. Christine hopes that in the near future she would be able to expand the kindergarten to a bigger compound so that they would have more space to implement interactive learning activities that would benefit her students.
