Apple Kids is a homely preschool and daycare in Taman Taynton View, Cheras. It’s based in a spacious corner lot, in a quiet residential area, surrounded by pockets of greenery.
There is a calming ambience in and around the preschool that is hard to miss.
Genuine Love for Kids
Founder and principal, Ms Qi Qi, loves children—and it’s obvious to those who visit her preschool. She not only runs Apple Kids, but also teaches and cares for the children there. She has built a deep and loving bond with the little ones, clearly seen through the fond affection that the kids have for her.
Apple Kids has been open since 2017, through her hard work and devotion for young children.
Emphasis on Independence and Discipline
Apple Kids prioritises healthy discipline for all their kids.
Through an inculcation of routine and good habits, young children develop much needed confidence and learn to become more self-reliant. After all, teaching kids how to be independent from a young age sets them up for success in their future.
Furthermore, the preschool and daycare focuses on character building which involves social and emotional skills. Kids of different age groups have opportunities to get together and play, which sets the stage for healthy development—as they learn from one another.
Providing Needed Attention for Little Ones
Young children can greatly benefit from more individual attention and focus, which Apple Kids is aware of. They keep their class sizes small, which facilitates learning that is more personalized and meaningful.
Pleasant and Relaxing Environment
There is a safe, comforting feeling at Apple Kids. I observed the kids resting peacefully together during nap time, soothed by a pervasive sense of security.
The space feels like a home away from home. Upstairs are classes for the older children (4-6 years), while younger kids learn and play on the first floor. Each year group has their own bathroom.
Outside there is a playground and space to run around freely.
Apple Kids also has a computer room on the second floor, where kids can learn basic computer skills.
Thematic Approach with Hands-On Learning
Apple Kids uses a thematic learning approach to teach children. They focus on a wide variety of subjects like mathematics, science, moral and Islamic studies, arts and craft, music and dance, and trilingual education (Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin). Their lessons are designed to be sensorial and hands-on, where real-life materials are used to make learning more interactive, interesting and relevant.
For the younger children (2-3 years), the approach is more play-based.
They also offer Singapore Mathematics, and a speech and drama class as extracurricular lessons. This curriculum, which exposes kids to many different areas, creates a sturdy foundation for entry into primary school.
Every year, Apple Kids organises a sports day and concert in which all their kids will participate. This not only builds self-esteem, but plays an important role in the spirit of community and working together.
Students at this preschool are set up to be competent learners; well-rounded individuals who are tenacious and ready to take on challenges that life so often presents.
Keeping Parents Informed and Updated
Ms Qi Qi uses an app to manage daily check-ins and check-outs for students, enabling better efficiency and security. She is also quick to update parents on things like signs of illnesses or any developmental milestones observed.
Being an open and approachable communicator, the principal and founder tries to have face-to-face conversations with parents whenever possible. Parents who send their kids to Apple Kids are sure to feel at ease with her honesty and transparency.
