Khalifah Intelek, Bandar Putra Bertam is play-based kindergarten with 4 other branches in Kepala Batas, Sungai Dua and Kangar, Perlis. The programmes focus on the educational development of the whole child (intellectual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical development) through play learning. Parents can choose to enroll their children into the half-day or full-day schedule from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The mission of Khalifah Intelek is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that inspires a lifelong love learning in children. Located in a quiet residential neighbourhood, the kindergarten is nestled in a corner lot of a row of terraced houses. The bright, multicoloured exterior makes it look very cheerful and welcoming. Within the school compound is a spacious outdoor space filled with playsets and materials that children get to enjoy; there is ample space for children to stay active and move around. For parents with worries of sending children back to school during times like now, rest assured that teachers are vigilant and proper SOPs are implemented for the safety of everyone.

At Khalifah Intelek, we believe that play is the key to learning. It is a powerful tool that helps children develop key skills such as communicating, socialising, self-confidence, problem-solving and many more.

Why Play-based Learning?

  • Each child is unique. The teachers at Khalifah Intelek respects that each child has their own individual personality, pace of learning and potential qualities. Since play learning takes many forms and can be freely adapted to children’s different strengths and weaknesses, this approach makes it possible to help each child reach full potential in all areas.
  • Children learn in different ways. Teachers here understand that some children learn by doing, some by seeing, some by reading and some by hearing. Therefore, they provide lots of unstructured, open-ended play with a range of materials for children to experiment in order to best support each child’s preferred learning style. Some fun examples include drawing, pretend play, drama, dancing, building and shadow play. By offering children a variety of ways to learn, it makes mastering new skills more enjoyable, which in turn instills a passion for learning – which is one of the best gifts Khalifah Intelek gives to its students.
  • Through play, children learn how to learn. In the programmes of Khalifah Intelek, children are actively making sense of the world through different playful, hands-on experiences. As these activities are not structured, children learn to be flexible in their thinking and decision making during the learning process. This is a vital life skill. Instead of just being spoon-fed information, they become inquirers and problem-solvers who will be prepared to deal with the challenges of our fast-changing world.
  • Play cultivates key skills that build a strong foundation for future learning. During social play, children practice their communication skills when they speak and try to understand each other. It also promotes emotion and self-regulation, like waiting to take turns and resisting the temptation to grab objects from friends, which are essential skills for primary school readiness. In addition, in this nurturing environment, children are encouraged to make choices in their own learning, making them feel capable and confident. Collectively, all these skills that children acquire through play in their preschool years at Khalifah Intelek form the fundamentals of a competent learner.

Above all, Khalifah Intelek promotes a school culture that respects each other – children amongst themselves, teachers towards children and vice versa. Everybody is encouraged to use kind words, take turns and share, resolve conflicts peacefully, and take into consideration the feelings and needs of others. By guiding children to understand and practise polite social norms, Tadika Khalifah Intelek is on the right path to shaping a better future for its students and our society.
