GrapeSEED is an oral English Language Learner (ELL) curriculum for children ages four to twelve. The programme is internationally recognised and delivered, proving effective results for over 50 years. It was originally developed by an American educator who was teaching in Japan.

The people behind GrapeSEED deeply understand the critical period of early childhood, and have designed a method that caters to how young children naturally acquire language. Through a cleverly crafted programme backed by research, GrapeSEED shapes English language learners that are fluent and confident.

GrapeSEED also offers a curriculum called LittleSEED that specially targets very young students ages 36-48 months.

Oral English Curriculum with Proven Success

Children around the world are at a great advantage thanks to GrapeSEED’s trusted curriculum, and there are real results to affirm this.

Their students reach proficiency in speaking and reading in just two to three years, while data shows that 75% of English learners in America achieve reading proficiency by 2nd grade with GrapeSEED lessons—half the time of the national average.

The GrapeSEED Learning Outcomes

GrapeSEED aims to equip students with the following essential skills in communication:

1. The ability to listen, comprehend, and respond

2. The ability to speak clearly

3. The ability to read and understand

4. Writing readiness

All these solid foundational skills set students up for a future of English mastery.

The GrapeSEED Method and Framework

GrapeSEED students engage with English learning in a practical way, rather than through rote memorisation of linguistic rules. By conducting fun and meaningful lessons that focus more on speech, GrapeSEED is able to make learning easier. Kids under this programme pick up English the way they would naturally learn it—through plenty of exposure. This ultimately leads to students who are motivated and excited to continue learning.

Children who follow the GrapeSEED curriculum begin by listening to language expressions and associating sounds with functions. They then start to mimic those sounds and say them. The idea is that through continuous hearing and utilising of the functions, the faster and more proficient they will become.

The GrapeSEED Core Components

Below are a number of core components that make up GrapeSEED lessons.

1. Songs

Catchy short songs paired with pictures and gestures teach kids vocabulary, pronunciation, and language functions.

2. Big books

Big books are used to conduct shared reading, where children learn phoneme and phonogram awareness.

3. Chants

Chants are fun and effective at helping kids learn what to say and how to correctly say it.

4. Stories

Stories get children to acquire language through daily repetition and comprehension. Students will learn new vocabularies and language functions with varying kinds of sentence structures.

5. Vocabulary picture cards

Words accompanied by cartoon illustrations support kids in connecting the dots between sound and meaning. Teachers are also able to make speedy assessments on kids’ progress in terms of pronunciation and intonation.

6. Phonogram cards

Phonogram cards teach children sounds in English, and the blending of sounds to form words. This, along with air writing, prepares kids for reading.

7. Story dictionaries

When children read stories, they participate in discussion that betters their communication skills. Story dictionaries strengthen vocabularies and functions that children come across.

8. Shared reading poems

Poems assist kids in recognising sounds and breaking them down.

9. Repeated Exposure and Practice (REP)

As part of REP, GrapeSEED students get access to books, CDs and DVDs that are fun and educational.

10. Readers

The GrapeSEED Readers component invites children to practice important aspects of language such as decoding, phonics and expression.

11. Writers

GrapeSEED Writers encourages the development of children’s writing skills in a structured and supportive manner.

The GrapeSEED Educator

GrapeSEED educators are transformative facilitators, supporting classes with refined technique and boundless energy. New teachers are given foundational training, to allow for the best delivery of the GrapeSEED curriculum. For educators who have more than a year of GrapeSEED teaching, a refresher course provides them with further skill development.

There is also special training provided to prepare teachers for the LittleSEED programme.

Undoubtedly, children will find their English learning accelerated in the hands of dynamic GrapeSEED teachers.
