International Montessori Centre (IMC) continuously strives to provide a happy and nurturing teaching environment with varied enjoyable, educational experiences that will make children feel loved and worthwhile. When children are happy and secure, their social, emotional, intellectual, physical development and mental wellbeing will flourish at its best. The school’s well-rounded programmes, which are designed to invoke curiosity and gently guide children as an individual, will inspire a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Sharing with friends, telling stories, believing in what one can achieve, days filled with laughter and joy, and strengthening bonds as a family and a community – this is International Montessori Centre.

An Enriched Environment Where Children Learn with Joy
In a home-like environment, IMC allows each child to grow comfortably at his or her own pace. Following Maria Montessori’s philosophy which respects the innate curiosity of all children, the learning processes are focused on developing deep understanding through hands-on, play and multi-sensorial experiences. The programmes focus on project-based learning through monthly themes. Through books, stories, music, art, science, cooking, gardening, water and sand play, and physical activities children gain a solid foundation of the world around us. Every few weeks children are in for a new adventure with topics such as occupations, animals, healthy living and so on.
Children manipulate Montessori apparatus, explore intriguing new materials, and discover the world, both indoors and outdoors, through their senses. They are encouraged to apply and express their ideas, collaborate with friends, build knowledge and life skills whilst having fun. Traditional areas of learning including language, science, mathematics, moral, music, art and craft are all taught at each child’s own level. Language learning has a strong phonics base, encouraging early reading and literacy skills. Mathematical concepts are taught beginning with basic number skills including sorting and counting using materials. Simple science experiments help children learn through observation and make decisions. It all sets stage for critical thinking and experimentation with the freedom of creativity.

Social-Emotional Skills Identified for School Success
Encouraging social interactions, taking care of children’s mental wellbeing and nurturing their social-emotional development are an integral part of the centre’s curriculum. Teachers recognise the vital role that they play in managing classroom behaviours, ensuring children feel secure and cared for, and establishing positive relationships with the whole school community. Gentle guidance, reasoning and explaining, and stories are used to promote social-emotional development and stability in children. Additionally, the school plans to start yoga classes in September for children to help them focus on happy thoughts and practice being present and mindful. The more exercise, the better children learn. In-house gym classes introduce children to a variety of movement activities to help them build a strong heart and develop the habit of a healthy lifestyle.

Nutrition and Hygiene
The food menu is halal and homecooked. Children are offered a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole foods as part of their lunch and snack plan. Apart from nutrition, hygiene is also an important topic that the school emphasises on. To make sure the little preschoolers have good personal hygiene, one of the first things they learn in school is to wash their hands before eating, after going to the toilet and playing with dirty things. These hygiene concepts are reiterated throughout the year to remind children the importance of these habits.
Increasing Parent Participation for Better Learning Experiences
In order to enhance the development and skills of children, teachers make an effort to establish a good two-way communication with families, as well as integrate parent involvement activities into their children’s learning process. Getting to know parents and letting parents know the school’s happenings allow for the best possible learning experiences.

Children Will Love School and Experience Success at IMC
The quality of the IMC experience comes from their philosophy, intimate size and organised structure. Most of all, it comes from the teachers and parent community who works hand-in-hand to provide the very best opportunities for children to learn and grow. Children at IMC will not lose their natural love for learning. They will develop a foundation of knowledge, skills and character to lead fulfilling purposeful lives. When children graduate, they are confident and secure in their identity as competent learners and compassionate friends.
