Sparkles Montessori Childcare Centre in TTDI is the second JKM licensed centre to be started by Ms Nancy Tee, who has an International Dip. in Montessori Pedagogy (MCI, UK) and also acts as a mentor for SEGi College and HELP University students taking Early Childhood Care and Education programmes. The directresses (teachers) in Sparkles Montessori also possess Early Childhood and Montessori diplomas and receive regular in-house or outsourced training.
Sparkles Montessori’s objective is to enable every child to have a positive experience of childhood and education and to grow up with a secure and positive self-image – all within a happy, fun and safe environment. The centre is equipped with CCTV for security and hand sanitizers and dryers for better hygiene. The children’s temperatures are also taken every morning.
The TTDI centre accepts children of ages 6 months to 6 years and has the reputation of being among the preschools with low teacher to children ratio. The maximum is 10 children to a directress (teacher), while for children below two years old, the ratio is 5 children to one caregiver. This allows the centre to better cater for the individual needs of each child.
Parents are also encouraged to participate in their child’s development. Besides the initial assessment, parents are provided 6-monthly reports on their child’s progress with the opportunity to meet teachers to discuss any matters. Parents enthusiastically join in with their children during Sparkles Montessori’s sports days and concerts, which are grand and enjoyable events jointly organised by both the TTDI and Sri Hartamas centres.
Recognising the importance of always keeping the communication lines open, the centre has started a family portal where each child has his/her portfolio and where teachers can communicate online directly with parents. The centre also uses a smartphone application that links them with all the parents for sending out information quickly and efficiently. With the application, attendance is also well-recorded as each child checks-in and checks-out daily using their personalised touch card.
