There is a husband and wife team in Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan that has sought to defy the commonly held belief that a career as an educator is a thankless calling. This dynamic duo is facing up to the challenge to bring the MRC Kids and JSP programme to children in their vicinity. From the short time that I had spent with them, they truly did demonstrate a dynamism and passion seldom apparent or seen from seasoned operators of preschools or enrichment centres.
MRC Kids in Taman Equine is situated in a shop lot and needless to say, I had my reservations while driving to my destination. On arrival, it was a relatively new area and the surroundings were rather quiet. However, being new, it did provide for ample parking during the drop-off and pick-up periods and generally the area was quite clean and well maintained.
At the entrance I pressed the buzzer and waited. A few minutes passed and the co-owner himself, Mr. Vincent appeared and ushered me in. Climbing up the stairs I noticed CCTV cameras and an access security door in place. Mr. Vincent noticed my observations and explained, “One cannot be too careful with the children’s security and safety. Furthermore, we have installed CCTVs in all areas of our preschool and we will not grant access to anyone who is not authorized to enter.”
A set of pre-interview questions had been emailed to the principal and being the professionals that they are, everything had been prepared and setup, projector, slides and all. Very impressive indeed.
MRC Kids enrichment programme is an innovative intellectual programme that has been designed to nurture healthy curiosity, develop the whole brain and instill a lifelong love for learning. Classes are purposely kept small and the teacher to student ratio low, to promote a rich and optimal learning environment. While nurturing healthy minds MRC Kids has not neglected the healthy bodies of the children in their care. The principal herself sources for the ingredients and prepares the children’s meals daily. Meals are prepared following strict nutrition and dietary guidelines. “A healthy body breeds a healthy mind. And if the children are healthy in mind and body, they will come to school happy. And if they are happy in school they will go home happy after school. Notice the cycle of happiness?!” enthused Madam Lam.
Besides MRC Kids, Madam Lam also offers MRC JSP. This is a programme that specially caters to students aged 7 to 12 years old. This primary school enrichment programme is designed to help children excel in school with homework guidance, as well as provide whole brain development across four major areas:
