DT Education Kindergarten, Pusat Bandar Puchong

Nestled in a quiet neighbourhood in Pusat Bandar Puchong is DT Education Preschool. The kindergarten occupies a corner building painted in white and bright yellow and there is a clean and spacious garden in the compound. Upon arriving at the kindergarten, we were greeted by the founder, Ms. Donna Tan, who welcomed us into her kindergarten with a warm smile.

Ms. Donna has been an early childhood educator for over 16 years and it was only in recent years that she decided to start operating her own kindergarten. She took over the current kindergarten in 2016 and rebranded it as DT Education.

Method / Curriculum

DT Education uses the integrated teaching method based on the B.E.E.S preschool syllabus to form a teaching method that is suitable for their students. Every child has a different learning curve and they also learn at a different pace, therefore the teacher-student ratio is kept low so that the teachers can get to know their students better and improve the students’ learning outcome. B.E.E.S edusystems is a specially tailored syllabus for the Malaysia and Singapore education systems. Their syllabus include English, Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia, Maths and Science. Phonics and sukukata for English and Bahasa Malaysia respectively are also included in the timetable for the 4 – 6 years old students. Every morning before lessons begin, students would have individual reading sessions guided by the teachers. Reading books for English are “Peter and Jane” while the Bahasa Malaysia reading books are “Paul and Mary”. These reading books are suitable for young children as there are pictures to draw their attention with passages containing key words to expand their vocabulary in the respective languages. Soon Ms. Donna would implement reading sessions for Mandarin as well.

Teachers play an important role in guiding their students to achieve their full potential. Therefore, every year teachers will be sent for training to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in teaching and curriculum resources.

Activities / Enrichment Classes

Besides the core subjects in accordance with the KSSR requirements, DT Education incorporates Montessori-based activities into their curriculum as well. These hands-on Montessori-based activities aim to help children develop gross and fine motor skills plus reading and writing skills. Every week there would be a cooking class session guided by the teachers and also a gardening class session. DT Education has segregated a small area in the compound specially for this purpose. Students will each have their own plant to tend to, while Ms. Donna has also planted some fruits and vegetables in this little patch of grass and soil which they have named simply “Our Garden”. Students love visiting the small garden and they would sometimes help Ms. Donna pick the vegetables. Most of the time these home-grown vegetables will be used in preparing the meals for the students, as they are fresh and without pesticides. DT Education also offers EMS computer class as an optional enrichment class.

Environment / Safety

Classrooms at DT Education are brightly lit, clean and very well-organized. There is a reading corner on the second floor equipped with shelves of storybooks for children to read. CCTVs are installed in every corner of the kindergarten to provide safety and security to the students at DT Education. Our favorite would be the well-kept outdoor compound equipped with children playsets; this is where DT Education students would spend their mornings before lessons of the day begin. There is plenty of free space for the  children to roam and dispense of their seemingly boundless energy; we are totally convinced that this is the children’s favourite area of the kindergarten too.

We did notice that the kindergarten was well decorated with stickers, wall murals and rainbow pinwheels. According to Ms. Donna, she handled the decoration of the kindergarten herself, even the wall murals were drawn by her. All these made the kindergarten even livelier than it already was.
